Intraoral X-rays
Installed as part of the complete refurbishment of the practice, digital x-ray offers a host of advantages over photographic plates.
The x-ray dose is cut by a factor of 10. A bite - wing x-ray which used to require an exposure time of 1.6 seconds now needs an exposure of only 0.16 seconds.
This means patients can dispense with needing heavy lead aprons [ though they are still available on request].
Developing with a scanner takes a matter of seconds instead of the 4 minutes required previously, leading to less delay in treatment.
Developer and fixer are highly toxic chemicals that our environment can really do without and thanks to digital it now does.
Finally, improved definition and the ability to manipulate the images, [ magnification, contrast intensification, etc.] all allow for greater accuracy of diagnosis by your clinician.
Extraoral X-rays
To obtain a total screening of the oral cavity for bone pathology, an Orthopantogram [OPG] X-ray is the most comprehensive method. Formerly it was necessary to travel off site, arranging further appointments to have the X-ray taken and then return to have us interpret the results. Not any more. Avenue Dental have installed a state of the art digital machine capable of taking OPG views and much more beside. We are very excited to have this capability for the greater care and convenience of our patients.
