Children

Most of our adults that have delayed receiving dental care, have done so due to a poor experience as a child. If we were to receive the same treatment as an adult, we would wonder what we worried about. Often, we are complimented on how dentistry has improved. Although this is true, most of these bad” experiences, are overstated, as childhood experiences can often be, intimidating, and forced upon them.

At Avenue Dental, we wish to minimise or eliminate these conditions where possible. The best way to do this, is to introduce your children to dentistry early. We encourage children to have their first visit around their second birthday. This visit will not involve a full examination (in most cases) and is usually free of charge. The aim of this visit is to obtain a general view of the smile with an introduction to the chair and surroundings (a chair ride!) At subsequent visits, we will gradually introduce, the light, the mirror, and the examination.

In this day and age, it is not just possible, it is probable, that yearly (sometimes six-monthly) visits to the dentist, can produce an adult smile, free of decay and with no fillings!

All of our dentists are highly trained in the treatment of children and developing teeth, however, we strongly believe that children respond well to a friendly voice and a bit more time than that required for an adult. For this reason, we encourage children to see our therapist  Deborah Kerridge. Deb has over twenty years of experience in treating children’s teeth. She has children of her own and a wonderful nature that children respond to well.

As always, regular brushing, flossing and a balanced diet at home are essential in forming and maintaining happy, healthy teeth. Let us advise you on the best methods and means to achieve this.
