Seniors
Most of our seniors will remember the good old days of dentistry.  We have certainly come a long way.  Times are changing rapidly with most people keeping their teeth for life.  Unfortunately, the technology may have come a little too late for most of our retirees.  Accordingly, most of our seniors have lost one or many of their teeth.

This time in life can prove difficult for some, as many of you are now taking medications to keep things running smoothly.  Unfortunately, one of the side effects of these medications can affect your mouth, often resulting in dryness.  The reduction in your protective saliva will result in a rapid increase in decay, along with a slowed ability to digest your food.  This may result in stomach upsets.  The good news is that we can often help.

As a large proportion of our seniors will be wearing partial or full dentures, it is always a good idea to have them checked early.  We find that dentures are easier for you and the dentist if made early in your retirement.

At Avenue Dental, we are concerned about our older patients.  Dental concerns are far more problematic in the later years.  Toothaches in many cases can no longer be rectified by traditional means, with a large number needing referral due to medications.  Blood thinning medications and most osteoporosis drugs are our main concern.

Problems like these may be avoided by having regular examinations.  We encourage all of our seniors to come early in their retirement and keep their teeth and gums healthy.  As always, you have options.  We will always respect your right to make your own decisions.
