Dieter graduated B.D.S. from the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg in 1981 after which he spent 2 years with the armed forces practicing dentistry throughout Namibia. He moved to the UK in 1983, where he joined a private practice in Edgeware Rd. London.

Being of German heritage he moved to West Germany in 1984 where he met his wife Chris and they set up very successful private practices in Attendorn near Cologne.

After practicing in Germany for 10 years the family moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 1993 where Dieter ran 3 practices sharing rooms with the periodontist Prof. Andre van Zyl. He was an assessor for the German Government, a medico-legal document compiler for numerous attorneys and the preferred dentist for many embassies including the German, Austrian, Swiss, French, Finnish, USA amongst others and treated many patients from all over the world.

He is vastly experienced in all aspects of dentistry, especially complex prosthdontic work (crowns ,bridges ,implants) and has attended conferences all over the world. Dieter was also chairman of the 2 oceans study group.

The Klein family moved to Buderim at the beginning of 2008 – wife Chris, daughter Kassandra (studying at Uni of Queensland in Medicine) and son Robert (Investment Banking in Sydney) . Dieter joined Avenue Dental in 2009 after passing the Australian Dental Council examinations and planned and designed Avenue Dental Maroochydore, which he owns with partner Ian Crump.

Dieter is an avid international investor, likes spending time on his game lodge in Africa, is a keen fisherman, has been a pilot for many years and is currently building a 4 seater aeroplane.
