We frequently get asked, when should a child have their first dental check-up?
Around their first birthday is a good milestone for your child’s first visit. This allows our Avenue Dental team of dentists, hygienists and oral health therapists to give you the best advice on good oral health habits. It may seem early, but we have loads to talk to you about!
Don’t forget, we also encourage and welcome younger siblings at other family member’s appointments. Your child will become familiar over time with the smells, sights and sounds, and hopefully tone, of visiting the dentist.
At Avenue Dental we do encourage early morning appointments for our “littlies” and we encourage you to arrive a little early to provide us with any medical information or past dental experiences that will allow the dental team to refine their approach. We encourage parents/caregivers to be a passive observer during the children’s dental appointments, enabling the dentists, hygienists and oral health therapists to capture and hold your child’s attention.
The first visit for your child to one of our Avenue Dental practices on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane will be a new experience. We pride ourselves in making this visit as comfortable and fun as possible. Do not worry if your child is not too keen to participate at first. This will probably change for the better during their visit. Remember that most children are nervous when meeting Santa Claus for the first time – but settle down quickly. After all, most children enjoy being the centre of attention.
