Guided surgery uses the latest technology to pre plan implant placement to maximise surgical precision and minimise patient risk. This is important if we are working near important structures such as sinuses, nerves and other teeth. This method combines CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) technology to visualise the underlying vital structures and bone shape of a selected area of the jaw combined with a digital scan of the mouth area to create a virtual patient.
This technology allows the ideal size, shape and position of the implant to be discussed with the patient and chosen. A ‘surgical guide’ is then 3D printed from resin to fit the patient’s mouth to allow placement of the implant at that exact position.
This new technology is more precise than the former X-rays. It completely eliminates the already low radiation risk for patients. It has been introduced to our practices as part of our commitment to high quality dentistry and aligns with our value of excellence in our everyday work.
Using this new technology, our dentists can often go so far as to prefabricate temporary crowns or bridges to fit these temporary implants during the surgery so that our patients can walk out with a smile immediately afterwards. Technology really has come so far!
To find out more about this incredible technology give us a call to arrange a free implant consultation at one of our practices.
