Dr Rachel Glancy

As a teen in the US, Rachel had orthodontic treatment to turn a frightful smile into a beautiful one.  Intrigued by the process and outcome, she asked her orthodontist about a future as an orthodontic assistant.  He encouraged her to go one further and actually study to become a dentist and do orthodontic treatment! Rachel decided straight away that she wanted to change peoples smiles.

In 1991, she graduated Cum Laude (equivalent to DUX in Australia) from Pacific University with her Bachelor of Science in Biology; while also gaining hands–on experience in the dental field as an assistant.  Rachel then went on to obtain her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree with Honours and awards from Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry in 1995.  After practicing general dentistry in private practice for a year, she knew it was time to go further with her studies.

Enjoying the company of others, Rachel looked toward employment with a group of dentists and dental specialists.  She discovered Permanente Dental Associates and found her new home for the next 15 plus years. Practicing orthodontic treatment at the Salem office was an amazing experience for Rachel. Her patients became her friends and many still keep in touch with her. Watching children grow up and treating families were some of her most wonderful times there.

Over those years, Rachel also kept her hand in general dentistry.  At the beginning of her career, she practiced general dentistry at a public school providing care for children at no cost. Volunteering her time and skills has always been a rewarding experience for Rachel.  There were many years that she provided free general dentistry both in and outside of her office to children and adults.  The satisfaction of relieving someone’s pain or having them enjoy their smile again was all the payment needed.

Coming from a cold and rainy climate in Oregon, USA, Rachel has always been one that loved the sun and warm weather. In 2009, Rachel and her family also realized another life-long dream of hers, to travel to Australia. That visit was what sparked their move to this beautiful country and amazing location.

Rachel moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2014 and joined Avenue Dental Caloundra in Autumn 2015.  Rachel has developed a love for promoting education around modern dental health.  And, in particular, how the effective application of quality orthodontics can be as life changing for her patients as it was for her.

Rachel loves developing relationships with her patients and guiding them through the orthodontic treatment process. Her goal is to work collaboratively with each person to attain the ideal outcome for them specifically. To Rachel, the best reward is attaining your goals together and seeing her patients smile their brightest the day their treatment is completed.

While Rachel enjoys helping in her young son’s school class, where she feels best is on beaches of the Sunshine Coast.   In her spare time, she loves spending her time at Dicky Beach with her son and husband.  You may find her reading a book, playing in the waves or just watching her son body board.

The feel of the sand, sound of the ocean, and sun in the sky gives her an instant feeling of contentment and peace.
