If you are fearful or anxious about the dentist, you have come to the right place. Unfortunately, stress, fear and anxiety are extremely common feelings when people think of visiting the dentist. If this is you, you are certainly not alone, and we are here to help. People express their anxiety in different ways. One of the most common initial greetings when people come to visit us is “I hate the dentist”. We understand that this is nothing personal and that this is really just people’s way of saying they are anxious at the dentist. Once we are aware that someone is anxious at the dentist we can take steps to address this concern. That is why we have started our anxious patient consultation, to give people the opportunity to see if we are the right dentist for them.

Our anxious patient consultation gives people who are fearful or stressed at the dentist the opportunity to visit our practice and meet a dentist who can listen to their concerns. We will not complete any active treatment on that day so people do not have to be worried about “the needle”, “the drill”, or any other aspects associated with active dental treatment. Our whole aim is to give you the chance to see if we are the right dentist for you and to see if you can feel safe and comfortable in the dental setting. We will listen to your concerns, try to understand your fear and anxiety and try to work through it with you to help you reach a point where you will be able to visit the dentist with minimal fear and anxiety.
We are here to help
If, after understanding your concerns, fears and anxiety you feel comfortable with us and we feel comfortable with you, then we may have a limited exam of your mouth to try to gauge the extent of your dental problems. We will not force you to do this but it makes it easier to address your concerns if we know the extent of the dental problems you face. Often, we find fearful and anxious people have not visited the dentist for a long time due to their anxiety. This means that often anxious people have more serious dental problems. We will not judge you for this, we are only here to help you. We want to help you reach your ideal dental health.
Other options
On occasion, after the anxious patient dental consultation people are not able to proceed with an active treatment. In this instance we can help direct you to someone who can cater to your specific needs.
