At Avenue Dental Maroochydore, we offer the option to complete certain dental procedures under General Anaesthetic (GA). Currently we are the only dental practice on the Sunshine Coast to have an in house GA facility.
This service is available only at our Maroochydore location and is provided in collaboration with registered medical anaesthetists in an appropriate clinical environment.
What is GA?
General Anaesthetic is a medically supervised state of unconsciousness.
During GA:

You are fully asleep for the duration of the procedure

A registered anaesthetist administers and monitors the anaesthetic

Your dentist completes the planned treatment while you are unconscious
Your safety and medical suitability are assessed before any GA appointment is booked.
General Anaesthetic may be considered for patients who find dental treatment challenging due to anxiety, difficulty sitting still, a strong gag reflex, or when multiple procedures need to be completed in one visit. Your dentist will assess whether GA is suitable for your individual circumstances.
Where do the GA appointments take place?
All GA appointments are performed at Avenue Dental Maroochydore in a facility equipped for hospital-grade anaesthesia.
A registered anaesthetist is responsible for administering and monitoring the anaesthetic throughout the procedure.
