At Avenue Dental, we’re glad to support families through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Run by Medicare, the CDBS gives eligible children access to a capped amount of dental care over a two-year period, helping cover the cost of the treatments they need to keep their teeth healthy. It’s a great way to take some of the financial worry out of looking after your child’s smile.
What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare program that helps cover the cost of basic dental care for children. Eligibility depends on things like family income and other Medicare-related criteria. Once approved, eligible children can access a capped benefit over a two-year period, which can be put toward a range of dental services.
The exact amount is set by Medicare and indexed each January — currently up to $1,158 for children whose two-year period begins in 2026. The amount available depends on when your child’s period started, so our team or Medicare can confirm what your child is eligible for.
At Avenue Dental, we make it simple for families to use the CDBS by bulk-billing eligible treatments — so for covered services under the scheme, there’s no out-of-pocket cost to you.

How Does the CDBS Work?
- Check eligibility: To find out if your child is eligible, log into your Medicare online account via myGov, or contact Medicare directly. You’re also welcome to call our reception team with your Medicare card handy and we can check for you. Eligibility is based on age, Medicare enrolment, and family income. One thing worth knowing: when we check on our end, the system simply tells us “yes” or “no” — it doesn’t tell us why a child isn’t eligible. So if it comes back as not eligible and you’d like to understand the reason, Medicare is the best place to ask, as they can see the full details.
- Book an appointment: Once your child is eligible, get in touch to book an appointment and let our friendly team know you’d like to use the CDBS for their treatment.
- Receive treatment: Our team will look after your child’s care, focusing on their individual needs and doing everything we can to make it a positive experience.
