Happy gas (nitrous oxide) — a mild, fast-acting option that helps many adults and children feel more relaxed, with effects that wear off quickly. Suitability is assessed for each patient.
IV (twilight) sedation — a deeper level of sedation administered by an anaesthetist, for anxious patients or more complex treatment. Suitability is assessed for each patient.
General anaesthetic — for patients who need it, available at our Maroochydore practice, which has its own in-built GA facility. Suitability is assessed for each patient.

It depends on the type. Happy gas and IV sedation keep you relaxed but conscious, though you may remember little of the procedure. General anaesthetic renders you fully unconscious for the treatment.
How long is recovery?
It varies by method and by person. Happy gas wears off quickly; IV sedation and general anaesthetic need longer, and you won’t be able to drive yourself home after the deeper options. Your dentist will give you aftercare instructions and talk you through what to expect.
