We offer sedation at our practices located throughout the Sunshine Coast in our Caloundra, Kawana, Maroochydore, Bli Bli, Baringa, Sippy Downs and Tewantin practices.

What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is also known as Twilight sedation or sleep dentistry. You will not be conscious throughout your treatment and you will have very little memory of events.

IV sedation uses a combination of sedative and pain-relieving drugs which are given intravenously to create a dream-like state of deep, calming relaxation for the duration of your dental procedure. This ensures you receive pain free dentistry.

Following treatment you will relax in our recovery room until you are ready to be taken home.

Would I benefit from IV sedation?

The following types of patients may benefit from IV sedation:

• Dental anxiety/dental phobia
• Sensitive gag reflex
• Complex dental procedure eg wisdom tooth removal
• Many treatments to complete their Dental Plan
• Difficulty in achieving numbness in the past

Who provides the IV sedation?

The sedation is carried out by an Anaesthetist who works locally on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. They will place a small canula into your hand or arm in order to administer the sedation medication, and they will closely monitor you throughout the visit to ensure your safety.

Where is the Sedation carried out?

IV Sedation is carried out in the comfort of our dental practice, the benefit of sedation is that it doesn’t have to be performed in the hospital setting.

Who provides the dental Treatment?

We work while you sleep!

Your dental treatment will be carried out by one of our dentists. With this multidisciplinary approach it allows your dentist to focus on what they do best, while the anaesthetist is fully focused on your sedation needs.

Is it Expensive?

There is no change to the dental fees you will pay for your treatment!

The only additional fee is for the anaesthetist fees, and Medicare contributes nicely towards reducing your out of pocket costs.

IV sedation is a cheaper alternative to General Anaesthesia, although General Anaesthesia is indicated in some selective cases.
