What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They can reshape a smile that’s dealing with uneven edges, wear, discolouration, or a bit of spacing – one veneer, or a whole plan, depending on what you’re after. How it actually works
First up is a free consultation, and it’s genuinely just that — we have a proper look at what’s going on, and you leave knowing more than when you arrived. If you want to take things further, we’ll photograph and 3D-scan your mouth on our iTero system, do a full exam, and take any x-rays we need. Veneers only work when what’s underneath is healthy, so we always check the foundations before anything else. Then comes the fun part. Right there in the chair, we use the iTero planning tools with your scans and photos to play with the design of your teeth together — shape, proportion, all the little details that make a smile feel like yours. Fancy softer rounded edges? Something a bit sharper and more defined? We can look at the options side by side and build a plan around what you actually like. Your dentist is with you the whole way, keeping it real about what suits your teeth specifically — because what’s right for you won’t be right for the next person, and that’s exactly the point.
Porcelain vs. Composite Veneers: What’s the Difference?

Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a dental lab, so they’re strong on stain resistance and tend to look the most natural. They usually last longer — but they involve more tooth preparation and a higher upfront cost, so they’re more of an investment.
Composite veneers are built up directly onto your teeth, often in a single visit. They’re gentler on the tooth and easier on the wallet to start with, though they generally need a bit more upkeep over the years.

The Veneer Process: What to Expect
1. Initial consultation
At your first visit, one of our Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, or Adelaide dentists takes a proper look at your smile and talks through what you’re hoping to change or any issues you feel you have currently with your teeth. This is also where we work out whether veneers are actually the right call for you – sometimes they are, sometimes something else suits you better – and map out a plan from there. You will require an examination and x-rays prior to any dental treatment starting.
2. Preparing the teeth
To help the veneers sit naturally, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of the teeth. It’s worth knowing this part is permanent — once enamel’s gone, it doesn’t grow back — which is exactly why we don’t rush the earlier steps. We then take digital scans after this so we can send these to the local lab so your veneers can be custom made to fit.
3. Temporary veneers
While your permanent set is being made, we pop temporary veneers on to protect the prepared teeth and let you live with the new shape and feel for a bit before anything’s final.
4. Fitting your veneers
Once they’re ready, your dentist will place the veneers on for you to check everything is to your satisfaction, as well as the fit and make sure everything looks good before bonding them securely in place.
5. Aftercare
Veneers are treated just like your natural tooth in terms of ensuring you are brushing, flossing and keeping up with your regular check ups and hygiene appointments.

That’s the whole idea. Veneers are designed to match the colour and shape of your own teeth, and your dentist works with you on the design so they sit in with the rest of your smile rather than standing out. What’s achievable does depend on your individual teeth, which you’ll talk through together.
Usually two appointments — one for preparation and impressions, and one to fit and bond them. Some composite veneers can be done in a single visit.
They can tidy up the look of mildly crooked or uneven teeth. But veneers don’t actually straighten anything — they change appearance, not position — so if there’s more significant misalignment going on, your dentist might point you toward orthodontic treatment like Invisalign instead. Sometimes that’s the better route, and we’ll tell you if it is.
