Dr Phillip Nguyen and Dentistry
Born and raised in Adelaide, Phillip made the move to regional Victoria to study dentistry, graduating from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry and Master of Dentistry. He was named the Australian Dental Graduate of the Year, an award that recognises excellence and dedication to always positively contributing to the dental and wider community. When he learnt about Avenue Dental and its commitment to the purpose of “positively transforming dentistry” in his second year of university, he instantly knew he wanted to work here and is ecstatic to be joining the team at the Sippy Downs practice.
Phillip is a perfectionist and has a high attention to detail which means he always strives to provide care of the highest quality to each and every patient.
He loves having the opportunity to work with patients of all ages and backgrounds, creating meaningful, long-term relationships with them over time. Having many younger cousins who he often looks after, Phillip enjoys being a gentle dentist to children, allowing them to become comfortable within the dental setting and setting them up to be great patients for life. Phillip loves all aspects of dentistry and is committed to perfecting and expanding his skill set through Continuing Professional Development courses. He is especially interested in cosmetic dentistry, facial aesthetics and clear aligner orthodontics. Phillip provides Invisalign treatment for his patients and loves seeing the incredible before and afters!
With a passion for giving back to the community, Phillip has held executive roles in various committees, including being President of the Australian Dental Students Association and the Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society.
He has also worked for the Australian Dental Council as an Accreditation Committee member, responsible for assessing dental programs across Australia and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, he is the Chair of the Recent Graduates and Students Committee of the Australian Dental Association – Queensland Branch.
Outside of dentistry, Phillip enjoys keeping fit at the local HIIT gym, cooking up a storm in the kitchen and discovering Australian music at a festival. Catching up with friends over a nice meal out is one of Phillip’s favourite things to do and as a newbie to the Sunshine Coast, he is always looking for recommendations on places to eat!

Book OnlineWHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE CULTURE OF AVENUE DENTAL?
Having only worked in hospitality and retail jobs during uni, I had become accustomed to the culture of having a dictatorial manager who you were scared of. Now, working at Avenue Dental of the last month, I have been so amazed by how different things are here. No longer do I see my manager as someone who is superior to me and someone I can talk to about my personal life. No longer are the times where we can’t enjoy being at work whilst also smashing all of our practice goals. It has only been a month here but everyone feels like family. I feel comfortable and safe having conversations about things that are happening in my personal life with these people, something that I really appreciate having only recently moving up to Queensland with few friends here. There is no rush to leave work as soon as the shift ends because everyone values teamwork and helping each other out so we can all finish together. Staff meetings are a big catch up with all of us together rather than a boring hour where we don’t interact. I feel so lucky to be a part of this team and I hope to be here for a long time to continue building these relationships with the people I work with.
