Dr Shuyi Chen and Dentistry
Originally from Canada, Dr Shuyi Chen traded in her snow boots for sandals and made the move to Australia to realize her dream of becoming a dentist. She completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Sydney. Looking for a change of pace, Shuyi relocated to the beautiful Sunshine Coast and joined the team at Avenue Dental Tewantin in 2022.
Shuyi is a warm and gentle dentist who puts patients at ease and takes the time to talk to them. She believes in educating patients and working together to achieve ideal dental health outcomes. She also understands that not everyone enjoys coming to the dentist, and it may have been years since the last visit. There is no judgement, and she will work to ensure anxious patients feel comfortable. One of the most rewarding aspects of dentistry is forming long term relationships with patients and Shuyi is looking forward to fostering this at Avenue Dental in Tewantin.

During her studies at the University of Sydney, Shuyi received the Richard Belitho Bush Memorial Prize for overall academic excellence, and well as the Professor Noel Martin Memorial Prize for research in population oral health. Prior to dentistry, Shuyi earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours in biology from the University of Toronto.
As a child, Shuyi spent years living in Europe. Even when young she found visiting the dentist fascinating, and later on realized that her passion for patient care combined with love for hands on work made being a dentist the ideal career for her.
Since arriving to Australia, Shuyi has been enjoying all that the beautiful country has to offer, spending her vacations visiting various places around the country. Now that travel is back on, she cannot wait to see more. During her free time, you can also find her enjoying the beaches and the outdoors in the Sunshine Coast with her partner. While at home Shuyi enjoys cooking and trying out new recipes, although she is also guilty of eating out much too often.
