At all of our Avenue Dental practices on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, we have the latest technology to measure the success and stability of dental implants. Resonance frequency analysis and its use in dental implantology is based on over 1300 scientific studies.
Book Online Learn moreThe Osstell Beacon or Penguin instrument measures implant stability and osseointegration and provides sufficient information to make a decision on when to load an implant or place the crown or tooth onto the implant.
The result is presented as an Implant stability quotient, ISQ value of 1-100. The higher the ISQ, the more stable the implant. Ideally there should be a measurement at implant placement for a baseline reading and again before final restoration, an increasing trend is an indication of a shift from initial or primary mechanical stability to secondary biological stability.
Generally, high stability means >70 ISQ, between 60-69 is medium stability and < 60 ISQ is considered low stability.
Historically, the only way to test if an Implant had integrated following the healing period was to apply a force to the implant and attempt to spin it within the bone, this has been suggested to increase risk for early crestal bone loss and failure of implants.
Using RFA and an ISQ reading from an Osstell Beacon or Penguin is safer, by giving an objective value this makes the implant treatment more predictable and may speed up the overall treatment timeframe.
