Who Can Get Invisalign

The majority of people can be treated with Invisalign clear aligners. Invisalign has been designed to treat a range of misalignment issues with teeth for children through to adults. It is important to have an assessment by a dentist trained in Invisalign to determine the most suitable orthodontic treatment for your particular case.   

The different issues which can be treated include:  

• Overbite – the upper front teeth are overlapping the lower front teeth beyond what is normal. 
• Underbite –the lower front teeth are position further forward than the upper front teeth 
• Crossbite – the upper tooth/teeth are biting inside of the lower teeth 
• Overjet – the upper front teeth protrude further forward beyond the lower front teeth  
• Gap teeth – occur if there is too much space  

• Open bite – the upper and lower front teeth do not overlap at all  
• Crowded teeth  – occur if there is not enough space for the teeth  
• Impacted teeth – a tooth that cannot erupt naturally and needs exposure to assist the tooth to come into position   
• Missing teeth – closing spaces from lost or missing teeth  
• Generally straighter teeth 

There are some people who clear aligner therapy might not be the best solution for their case. There are a number of additional factors that need to be taken into consideration when deciding if aligner therapy is appropriate for you.  It is very important that patients are able to attend dental appointments regularly to monitor progress closely for the duration of treatment.  Patients also need to be motivated to wearing their aligners for at lease 22 hours per day or treatment may not be possible or may take much longer than expected. Patients need to be committed to brushing their teeth frequently as without adequate oral hygiene aligner therapy can increase your risk of developing decay or bad breath.
