These days everybody wants to have a whiter and brighter smile. No one has ever attended one of our Sunshine Coast and Brisbane dental practices and asked for their teeth to be more yellow! Your smile is your best accessory and if you have been keeping your smile hidden because you feel your teeth are ‘discoloured’ or ‘yellow’, then this is a wonderful option to discuss with one of our professional dentists, hygienists or oral health therapists. Teeth whitening can be used to whiten teeth that are brown, yellow or grey in appearance. Teeth Whitening is a quick, safe and effective option to whiten your smile.

At Avenue Dental we offer two different treatments for teeth whitening, take home teeth whitening and Zoom or “in chair” teeth whitening.

Take home teeth whitening

Take home teeth whitening involves constructing custom made trays for you to whitening your teeth at home. The custom-made trays are a great way you can achieve whiter teeth at an affordable cost. Some teeth whitening systems require you to wear them up to 8hours at time, whist our whitening solution receives the same results with only 1 x 60min application a day for approximately 14 days. Having the custom trays allows you to “top up” your teeth whitening whenever you want to freshen up your smile and bring your teeth back to the whitest, brightest they can be. Most people “top up” their whitening every couple of years. You can purchase extra whitening gel at any of our practices for an affordable price. Take home teeth whitening can also be used as an adjunct to other cosmetic dentistry. For example, if someone is wanting dental veneers it might be wise to whiten the underlying tooth structure first before doing the veneers to achieve a better result with the final dental veneers. Sometimes, if people are getting fillings replaced on their front teeth, we may suggest that people whiten their front teeth first so that we can match the new fillings in with the new whiter colour of their front teeth.

Zoom in-chair teeth whitening

For patients who are wanting instant and visible results on the day then Zoom or “in chari” teeth whitening is best option. Zoom teeth whitening is a one visit procedure in the safety and comfort of our surgery that takes approximately 40 – 90mins. It uses an activating light with our professional grade whitening gel. Zoom teeth whitening allows you to achieve the whitest smile possible in one simple easy procedure. We also include a set of custom-made teeth whitening trays that allows you to freshen up your smile at any time with the teeth whitening gel to keep your teeth sparking white!

Other options

Unfortunately, teeth whitening will not whiten existing fillings, crowns or veneers and will not remove surface stains around existing fillings or build up from gum disease. That is why it is best to consult with a dental professional before whitening your teeth as they can advise about the option that is best for you given these other complicating factors. It is important to remember that teeth whitening will not prevent staining or the discoloration of your teeth. Anything that stains a white t-shirt e.g. coffee, tea, red wine will stain your teeth. However, with your custom made teeth whitening trays you can top up your teeth whitening at any stage.
